President of the European Commission
DG Employment, Social Affairs & Inclusion
Dear Mr Juncker,
I am writing you as a member of Amnesty International Hungary about the current migration policies of the European Union. The used practices seriously violate human rights and risk the lives of many people, who are fleeing from persecution, poverty or conflict.
I would like to ask you to strengthen search and rescue operations in the Mediterranean and the Aegean seas through a joint effort involving all EU member states.
Furthermore I urge you to provide more safe and legal routes to Europe for those fleeing conflict and persecution so they are not forced to take dangerous journeys in the first place; and ensure they have access to international protection when they reach Europe’s borders.
Finally I would like to draw your attention to stop cooperating with countries with poor human rights records to restrict migration flows into the European Union.
